reasonably priced, professionally-run home care programme. A number of potential care-givers attended the public meetings held in Taihape, Waiouru and Ohakune last Wednesday, with Bamardos' Waimarino project coordinator, Vera Donnelly, on hand to begin compilation of a register. Bamardos care-givers are not necessarily parents of young children, according to Mrs Donnelly.

"Care-givers need just | one qualification", she said, "and that is a genuine love of children." An older person with a grown-up family may opt for the service in the capacity of a grand-parent, she said. Successful applicants receive on-going training and support from Bamardos, in the form of workshops that cover a variety of topics including first aid, C.P.R., assertiveness training and creativity. The service will be available for parents in need of some 'time out', as well as working couples or individuals.
