Raetihi make final
by

After losing their second game of the season 20-13 against Wanganui Marist last week Raetihi Senior Women's rugby team were desperate on Sunday for a win against an improving Waiouru side in order to make the final at Raetihi on 7 August. Straight from the kickoff centre Tinga Matenga
scored the first of two tries for Raetihi as a result of some good running from the much stronger Raetihi backline. From there Raetihi scored another eight tries to win by 51 points. Everyone in the Raetihi team played well and showed a ton of guts and commitment. Players who really stood out for Raetihi were - veteran Gail Mareikura who was always putting the Waiouru half-back under pressure, Tina Bishop who cleaned up a lot of line-out ball and Janice Martini who had another solid performance. In the backs Michelle Kui played well on defence at half-back, Tinga Matenga and Rene Hiroti were both dangerous in the mid-field backs. For a well beaten Waiouru, number eight Clarkey had an awesome game on attack, half-back Milo Turgamata played well under pressure and Mellissa Brown who once again played another busy defensive role. Raetihi have a bye next week which will give them two weeks to prepare for the grand final on 7 August. Raetihi scores: 51 - Tinga Matenga two; Rene Hiroti two; Janice Martini, Yvonne Cribb, Michelle Kui, Raema Mowat and Gail Mareikura tries; Michelle Kui, Raema Mowat and Rene Hiroti all one conversion. Waiouru 0.
