Forestry fruitful

The council's joint forestry committee member. Weston Kirton, told the Ruapehu District Council that they could consider pulling out of the venture, but that after weighing up the options, it should wait until the forests mature, to get the full benefit of it. Councillors were told the involvement was one inherited from the Ohakune and Raetihi borough councils and that there was an expectation in those towns that returns from the investment would go back to those towns. Mr Kirton said he believed the forestry scheme was a good one, and that the council should be showing the way by developing its own projects.
