Entries are invited in several categories; oil, watercolour, other medium and life study. A local award, this year open to all artists resident in the Ruapehu District and sponsored by the Ruapehu District Council, is also made. A young artist award is also made and attracts increasing interest and attention from secondary school, polytechnic and college of education students.

Awards to the value of $5000 are made across the various categories with a premier award of $2000. The untimely death earlier this year of longtime principal sponsor of the awards, Elizabeth Baigent, saddened all those who had worked closely with her over many years. Sponsorship in Elizabeth's name will continue and, to mark her personal contribution to the growth of the exhibition, the principal award of the show will in future bear her name - The Elizabeth Baigent Memorial Award. Details of the 1993 exhibition and entry forms are available from public libraries and from the convener Ellen Gould, 49A Arawa Street, Ohakune, Ph: 063858 115.
