Waiouru bank opens

Waiouru 's Westpac Bank branch has moved to a new location on State Highway One, adjacent to the Army Museum and the Shell Truckstop. The decision was made to move the branch from its location in the Army housing area out on to State Highway One in order to service the Army community as well as the

general public, Branch Manager Colleen Maher said. Current opening hours are from 9.30am to 3.30pm but the bank is looking to extend those hours said Mrs Maher. An Automatic Teller Machine has also been installed in the external facade and will be open everyday between 7am

and 11pm. At the moment the bank is waiting for an advertising sign indicating the ATM facility, to be installed, near the road. It is hoped this will be in place in two weeks. The building is one of eight identically constructed buildings which the Army built during the second World War. Of

late the building served as the Headquarters for the Waiouru Training Depot. Both the site and the building are still owned by the New Zealand

Army, but Westpac undertook the interior refurbishment. Extra security for the bank's new location is being provided by Chubb.
