Marist too strong for Ohakune

by

ossie

Wanganui Marist beat Ohakune 55-5 in the main game at Raetihi. New Zealand representative Pauline O'Leary scored 4 tries and Vicky Pearce showed her potential by scoring 2 tries. The other try scorers for Marist were: number 8 Mary Lahi; full-backs Dianne Watkins and Caren Steed. Rachel Munn converted 5 tries taking the score to 55. Ohakune 's 15-year-old Tania Clark scored her teams only try. Not only is she the smallest player in her team but when she scored her try she carried three big Marist forwards with her. Other players to stand out for Ohakune were: number 8 Kim Burrows; flanker Jackie Henare and hooker Mo Apehira. Players to stand out for Marist were: forwards - Caren Steed and Jill Maher and backs - Norts Wilson, Vicky Pearce and Pauline O'Leary. Ohakune's forwards did well to match the experience and strength of Marist, but failed to defend well in the backline. Next week's game against Waiouru should be a real thriller as both teams will be after their first win of the season. Final scores were: Marist 55 - Pauline O'Leary 4; Vicky Pearce 2; Caren Steed, Mary Lahi and Dianne Watkins tries; Rachael Munn 5 conversions. Ohakune 5 - Tania Clark 1 try.
