Image lift for Waiouru mooted

A meeting of the Waiouru Community Board was held last week with two items on the agenda being the Civil Defence Plan and the image of the Waiouru township. A proposal to upgrade the Waiouru township and further develop its identity was discussed. The Board has seen the need to offer more to travellers than the Army Museum alone. It hopes to make people more aware of the military community in Waiouru and perhaps engage in some beautifica-

tion of the township, sirhilar to what is happening in other nearby centres. In the months ahead the Waiouru community will be asked to meet with local businesses to develop and act upon this new proposal. The R.S.A. was named as the new headquarters for Civil Defence and Board member, Sue Rodger, was appointed as the new local civil defence co-ordinator for the Waiouru Ward. A document is currently being drawn up and will be reviewed at the next board meeting to commence implementation of the Civil Defence Plan in this area.
