Smash and grab

Ohakune Police apprehended three people - two men and a woman - in connection with a late night smash-and-grab at the Junction Ski Shop on Wednesday 26 May. Ski clothing and equipment in excess of $30,000 was taken, with the offenders leaving the scene in a car previously reported stolen from Auckland. After -crashing the vehicle on Old Station Road the three made off on foot, stealing another car from Rimu Street at the Ohakune Junction. They were apprehended by Police shortly after. Two of the offenders were charged with the burglary of the Junction Ski Shop and unlawful taking of a vehicle. They were remanded in custody and taken to Wanganui. The third person received minor injuries and was taken to hospital but faces charges at a later date. Police are also continuing with their investigation into other offences committed between Auckland and Ohakune. The three may face further charges pending the outcome of these investigations.
