Raetihi women's bowls
by
Shelly of RIC
The Raetihi Women's Bowling Club had their closing day on Saturday 3 April 1993, which started with a champagne breakfast with visiting members from Ohakune, Owhango, Mananui and Turangi clubs competing. This year was a very quiet year for Raetihi ladies as there were only seven fully paid-up members in the club. It was hard for the women to hold internal competitions but when they
did compete they did well. The Ladies challenged Ohakune for the Pluck Cup and won. They held the cup for two challenges and then lost it to Rapanui. They challenged Taihape for the Simonson Cup and won that too. They could not compete in the Champion of Champions due to their lack of members but they hope next year to have an additional three or four members which will allow the club more opportunities to enter competitions. Robin Scarrow, a member of the Raetihi Womens
Bowling Club, played in the Masters Games in Wanganui with three Ohakune Ladies. They won gold in the fours competition. The Bowling Club has a new green keeper and the greens are getting faster every year, and club member Di Martin thanked Mike for his efforts. Raetihi Women's Bowling Club members are willing to show anyone interested how to play bowls so any women or men interested in playing next year can contact Di Martin 385-4266.
