New DoC manager

Don Bogie from Department of Conservation's Whakapapa field centre has been seconded to replace Lisle Irwin as Field Centre Manager at the Ohakune Ranger Station. Mr Irwin left Ohakune earlier this month to take up a two-year position working in National Parks in Indonesia. Together with his wife Peg and their two children Don is looking forward to moving to

Ohakune soon. In the meantime Mr Bogie is commuting from Whakapapa Village where the family has lived for the past fiveyears. Prior to Whakapapa Don Bogie spent nineyears at Mt Cook. Wellknown for his mountaineering and alpine rescue abilities, Mr Bogie was a driving force in establishing the Ruapehu Alpine Rescue Organisation (RARO).

He recently published a book on alpine rescue techniques. As well as his involvement in RARO, Mr Bogie sits on a number of committees including the Mountain Safety Club's Avalanche committee, the Mountaincraft committee and the Federated Mountain Club National Search and Rescue committee. Mr Bogie' is 37 -years old, is married and has two children aged two and four.
