"Soldier, Soldier" visits marae

Cast and crew of the English drama series "Soldier Soldier", filming in the Waimarino for the next four weeks, experienced a taste of New Zealand culture with a traditional Maori welcome onto Tirorangi Marae on Sunday. The series follows a group of infantrymen as they complete a twomonth training period at Army Training Group, Waiouru: their working and private lives, the associated work pressures, the humart conflict and the unintentional humour of life that surfaces. Waimarino viewers will recognise some local talent starring alongside the predominantly English cast in this latest series - one "star" being Ohakune ' s Parkland's Restaurant, renamed "Julie's Cafe" for the interim. Producer of the series is Christopher Neames, a third generation cinematographer. Cast and crew continue on to Germany for further filming upon completion in New Zealand. The series already enjoys a huge following in the United Kingdom, with an estimated 1 1 million viewers following the first two series. The current series goes to air in the U.K. in September, but no information was available as to when it will appear in New Zealand.
