"Waimarino has good job future"
Waimarino's visiting employment service officer, Jan Lawton has swapped her work here
for instant family life, with twins soon to arrive. Gary Steed takes over
her responsibilities here. Jan said she has enjoyed her work here "without reservation".
"My clients, job seekers and employers, have been very welcoming and good to work with." She said she has found the Waimarino to have no worse a long term unemployment problem than Wanganui. Seasonal work on the mountain as well as in horticulture and agriculture balance well to provide yearround work for many. "The Waimarino is a special community - business is growing so there are more opportunities here." Gary Steed is not a stranger to the area, having worked at Waiouru and Taihape for the old Ministry of Works. He has been working for the New Zealand Employment Service for two and a half years, as rural officer.
