POLICE FILE

• Three teenage youths were caught as they were committing a burglary a rural property on Tohunga Rd at about 5pm on Wednesday. A member of the public became suspicious when the youths were walking about the property and called the police. The youths were located and a small quantity of food was recovered that had been taken from the address. Follow-up enquiries are being made in Taumarunui, where the youths live. They were not arrested as they were under 17 years of age. • On Wednesday morning, police recovered a stolen vehicle from a rural address in the Ruatiti area. It appeared the vehicle had been at the address for some time and enquiries revealed the vehicle had been stolen in 1990. Enquiries in the matter are continuing. • On Wednesday night, a 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with trespass when he failed to leave a property in Wood Street, Raetihi. The arrest stemmed from a domestic situation between the arrested man and his wife. • Finally, some friendly advice from the local constabulary: "Residents are reminded if they are planning to go away, they should consider some simple preventative measures in guarding their homes against break-ins and the like. "Please consider organising someone to collect mail from letterboxes and any milk deliveries. "Also, mow lawns before leaving and if you will be away for a lengthy period of time, get someone to mow them while you are away. "Let your neighbours know that you are going away so that if anything suspicious occurs, the police can be notified and investigate. "All residents are asked to drive safely over the festive period and be responsible with respect to alcohol consumption and driving. "This way, hopefully we will all have an enjoyable time. "On a final note, the Ohakune Police wishes everybody a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year."
