Xmas cheer from army truck
Parishioners and friends of the St James Church climbed onto the back of a Mercedes Benz 2228 truck with their organ to serenade the residents of' Waiouru last week. Described by the organ-
iser Cliff Simons as 'just a bunch of happy people', they spent two and a half hours on Monday night carol singing in the Waiouru township and military camp. "We saw it as a way of bringing Christmas cheer to the streets of Waiouru," said Cliff Simons. Major Simons had seen the Army Band do a similar thinc in previous years but
> was reluctant to compare his troop of enthusiastic choirists with the Army professionals. "There were lots of children and we threw lollies off the truck. The response was great. One woman even came out to the verandah and danced. We only stopped because it got too dark to read the song sheets."
