Waimarino under Wanganui CHE
The Waimarino area is to be included as part of the Wanganui Crown Health Enterprise, (CHE), under government health reforms. Ruapehu District mayor Garrick Workman attended a Manawatu-Wanganui Area Health Board meeting last week at which he was told the Wanganui CHE would now encompass Waiouru, Rangitikei, South
Taranaki, Wanganui and the Waimarino. Mr Workman was to inform the Waimarino Health Watch Committee of this decision last night (Monday 14 December) and said it would now be up to them to put forward any proposals to the regional health authority. "We should start thinking seriously about our health requirements in the future
and advise the Wellington-based regional health authority of those requirements as soon as possible." That might include Waimarino residents' preference to go to Taumarunui Hospital, he said, and that was what had to be determined in this area and passed on to the authority. "We need to drive ourselves, rather than be driven."
