Waiouru Board doesn't use the toilets

Waiouru's public toilet facilities came up for discussion at the recent meeting of the Community Board. Board and District Council member Robert Vine moved that Transit New Zealand be asked to accept responsibility for some of the maintenance of the public toilets. "Waiouru is unlike Taihape or Ohakune. They have a larger rural population than the town. Whereas they are provid-
ing facilities for their wider community Waiouru ratepayers are paying $13,000 a year for the passing public," said Mr Vine. He revealed that although he has been living in Waiouru for 32 years he has never once used the public toilets. "With the user pays call over the last few years I believe Transit New Zealand are being unfair in not accepting responsibility for the toilets." Fellow District Councillor Sue Rodgers
supported Mr Vine's motion. "I agree with Bob. I don't get anything back
from these passing people. Why should my money go towards a facility that I don't use," she said.
