Ruapehu books look better

A much improved financial situation should now lead to a better standard of service, Ruapehu

District mayor Garrick Workman told the council at their last meeting. He was commenting

on the annual Audit Office report on the performance of the council. "Following this year's significant improvement, we have a far better financial base to work from and we should now work to improve our standard of service," said Mr Workman. The Audit Office said the council was to be

commended on "the continued efforts and steps taken towards improving its financial reporting and systems". The council's accounting staff should be complimented on the high standard of their work, said the report. Lacking however, were the quality measures for the majority of the council's activities. "The criteria of quality, quantity, cost, timeliness and location are required in the measurement of non-financial performance," said the report. Asset valuation also needed changing. It may no longer be appropriate to use government valuation for land and buildings if it does not approximate market valuation.
