Planners look at parks
Commercial operators working within national parks will now have to go through the district council's planning process, where appropriate. Previously the Department of Conservation govemed what went on inside national parks, but with changes brought about by the Resource Management Act, DoC will consider operations from the landowner's point of view, but the council will consider proposals from a resource planning point of view. The council needed to consider this change when preparing its new district seheme, the council was told at their meeting of 27 November. "Whakapapa Village, for example, needs looking at because of what's Turn to page 5
Reservoir From page 3 proposed there," said mayor Garrick Workman. He said as for equity, it could be argued that the southern area could be subsidised more because it had less facilities than the north. Cr Eddie Turley said there were sports groups who did not agree that they should pay all their costs while some paid nothing. He cited rural sports groups. The council decided to defer making a decision until February, and call for public and sports groups' comments on the proposed policy.
