Meat plant man to meet iwi to discuss plans

By Tamaupoko Korero - Te Reo Irirangi The man behind the proposal to build a meat plant at Raetihi, Peter Wenden of Marton, is to talk to the Tamaupoko Trust at its next hui on iwi involvement in the project.

Mr Wenden said he has been experiencing some short-term problems getting the project off the ground but now hopes his battles with 'red tape' may be coming to an end. He has had discussions with both the Whanganui River Maori Trust Board and the Tamaupoko Trust on his plans for the

Raetihi meat plant. The iwi view the resumption of discussions as an extension of those earlier negotiations and complimented Mr Wenden on his perseverance in difficult economic times. Prior to Mr Wenden 's proposals being announced local iwi had

been working for some time on similar plans for the establishment of a meat plant in the Waimarino. The Tamaupoko Trust has had exploratory discussions with other meat industry investors on joint iwi - meat company ventures in the meat processing field.
