Health services studied

This article is presented by the Waimarino Health Watch committee Mayor Garrick Workman recently brought together the four members of the Waimarino Health Liason Committee who were responsible for presenting to the Health Minister, the submissions on Health Care for the Waimarino. There is a dctermination to lcave no stone untumed, to see that an adequate Health Service is maintained through the Health Centre and support services out in the community. Members of the Manawatu Crown Health

Advisory Committee chaired by Ian Wilson recently toured the Health Centre viewing buildings and grounds. Discussions are taking place on a regular basis with Waimarino general practitioners Dr Perera and Corbett, Health Centre Management, Pharmacy and Manager of Rural Health Services, in an endeavour to monitor the rapid changes being introduced on the health front and to highlight concern for this region. X-ray services have been reinstated, and doctors are demanding a speeding up of x-ray reports. Access to all specialist care is requested. With the setting up of Regional Health

Authorities which will be responsible for purchasing Health Services for the region and the soon-to-be determined, Crown Health Enterprises to deliver the services, it is essential that transport difficulties be resolved so that where necessary, people can access services in the main centrcs. In the year to June

1991, New Zealand spent $4.3 billion on health care ($1,552 for every man woman and child). Our question is - are the people in rural areas like the Waimarino, accessible to the same Health Services as those in the cities? It is our intention to demand a fair distribution.
