POLICE FILE

• A car stolen from Raetihi on Wednesday night was found the next day submerged in the Makotuku Stream. Ohakune Police Sergeant Bob Evans said the Ford Ghia was a write off and they are continuing enquiries. • Another car stolen from outside the Aramoho Hotel in Wanganui on Saturday night was found stripped and pushed over a bluff near Ohakune. Police found the car was on the Fields Track Road about ten kms south of the turnoff from State Highway 49 on Sunday night. • Also on Sunday night a 23 year old Aucklander, now residing in Ohakune, was arrested and charged with simple theft after he was caught stealing firewood. Mr Evans said there had been a number of incidents this year where firewood had been stolen, and it was a shame because some people go to a lot of trouble to collect their wood for the winter. The man will appear in the Ohakune District Court on October 8. • Another empty chalet was the target of thieves in the weekend. Burglars forced open the window of a Moore Street holiday house and stole cutlery, bedding, a television and a vacuum cleaner.
