Bridge results
Ron Martin and Heather Cranston won the north-south competition on Wednesday 9 September with a score of 58.75% while Pauline Le Noel and Lauretta Eades scored 52.77% to take second place. The east-west competition was won by Brian Eades and Les Burns with 64.47%. Well back on 48.18% but still in second place were Colin and Bev Cox. On Wednesday 16 September the northsouth competition was won by Tani Blackburn and Jenny Mottram with a score of 67.48%. In second place with 57.70% were Gordon Mottram and Doug Bennett. Mark Hays and Bob Tumataroa won the eastwest competition with 59.30% while Elaine Goldfinch and Les Burns were promoted from fourth place up to second place with 50.95%. Wednesday 16 September was the last night of a three week
competition and the top three placings are as follows: First, Les Burns 175.02; second, Mark Hays 164.22; third, Pauline Le Noel 159.72. Waimarino Golf The annual 36-hole tournament saw a good field with players from Whakatane, Palmerston North, Wanganui and Taihape. The 36-hole cross was won by T Barnard with a score of 150, runner-up was B Leslie with 152. 36-hole nett J Ennis 135, R V D Herewini 137 on the toss from A Thomas also on 137. G Allerby 139. Afternoon Stableford, A Berridge 42. Juniors: 36-hole gross 168, run-ner-up T Spry 170, 36hole nett S Foster 133, P Hansen 136, C George 137, F Bright 139. Afternoon Stableford S Mott 45. Ladies: 36hole gross P Mowatt 171, nett K Tapp 138, R V M Halford 151, Stableford J Martin 31.
