Wet weather poses power problems
Continuous wet weather has added to the problems faced by King Country Energy in keeping a regular supply of electricity flowing to its customers. King Country Energy has had to divert a seven pole span on Pongahura Road just north of Taumarunui because a slip threatened to bring the line down on to the road. And a section of line around the bluff above the Taumarunui Railway Station has been removed altogether, after being endangered by a slip. A landslide was responsible for a 45 minute power cut for 1,320 Ohakune consumers last month. The slip cut the supply from ECNZ on 16 August. Meanwhile snow caused the Tangiwai feeder to trip out for three hours on the morning of 23 August and a blown fuse was responsible for a loss of supply to 600 customers on the Bruce Road for two hours on 25 August. In spite of that, it was a relatively good month for King Country Energy, with the average time any customer was without power being 15.36 minutes - a much better result than in the previous two Augusts.
