Busy October for Raetihi's McCann

Aaron McCann will have a very busy October this year - playing two
games of rugby a week in Wales! The Raetihi youth has been selected as Utility
back for the 1992 New Zealand Rugby Youth Team, which he will join in Auckland on 4 October, as they fly out on their tour - without any practice as a team, Aaron pointed out, which will make for a tough time against the best Welsh youth teams now playing.
Before the six matches in Wales, the team will play against an American team on a stopover in San Francisco, then they will play two games on the way home, one in England and another in Honolulu. Aaron is excited about the tour, not only be-
cause of the travel, but because of the heavy coaching he will get and the chance to play against strong sides with a new selection of players - a good way to learn the skills. Although Aaron' s trip is sponsored, he needed to raise $6,850 himself
to cover other costs, without spending money. A personal loan for this requires him to depend on returning to his job at Dobson's plumbers and employer John Dobson has agreed to do this. "A trip like this can only enhance Aaron's chances for future recog-
nition and will be a character building trip". During Aaron's absence, Shawn Willaby will be working for John Dobson and he may well keep both of them on when Aaron returns. With apprentice exams fast approaching, however, Aaron will have little spare time on tour.
