Reserves levy ends

Reserves contributions from urban section subdividers will no longer be required by the Ruapehu District Council. The change in council policy was made at the Ruapehu District Council' s meeting last Friday and was made to standardise the policy on contributions to council reserves from rural and

urban subdividers. Previously contributions were not collected on rural subdivisions while on urban subdivisions five per cent of the value of any new lots were collected. Councillors argued that new rural blocks, especially residential 10 acre blocks, lead to as much increased usage of the council's reserves as

new urban sections. The area was also "over- endowed" with reserves which the council was already struggling to maintain. Councillors also felt subdivision developers should be encouraged and . not hindered by having to pay the contribution. In 1991/92 $5350 was collected in contributions.
