Haywood takes Haensli cup

The oldest and most prestigious ski race on the North Island circuit was held on Saturday, 12 September in ideal conditions on the Te Heu Heu Race-course. In the women's event Annika Haywood continued her present form winning with an overall time 5.48 seconds faster than second place getter Angela Huppert. Georgie Bremner put in two consistent runs to narrowly

beat Monique Ritchie for third. Chris Mosaed continued his present good form to win the men's event in a race he's no stranger to. Chris first won the Haensli Cup at the age of 14 and he has since won it four times. Thomas Jones from Huntly narrowly beat Whakapapa local Ben Tidswell for second place. The Haensli Cup has

been raced at Whakapapa since 1951. The race is named after Walter Haensli who was the first post-war ski instructor at the Chateau. He was in-

strumental in the formation of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts by arranging the purchase of chairlifts from his homeland, Switzerland.
