Army closes early

by

Jan

Savell

Soldiers of the Army Training Group Support Unit will be getting home early from now on. The working day has been changed from 8am to 4.30pm with an hour for lunch to a 4pm finish with a 30-minute lunch break. This is just one of the measures introduced in an effort to work within the ATGSU budget. A complete halt on panel-work for ATGSU vehicles and a moratorium on purchases of software or office equipment has also been ordered. Power, heating and

rates are the biggest items in the ATGSU budget and it is hoped that the condensed working day will assist in achieving the required 20% cut in utilities. The temperature of Waiouru's swimming pool is being reduced from 29 to 20 degrees. Use of the pool and gymnasium will be restricted to working hours unless prior arrangements have been made. Maintenance work on the Army houses has ceased with work-orders being issued for matters of health, safety or security only. Carpeting of homes will go ahead as houses

become vacant because the materials have already been purchased but no redecoration of houses will take place.

At present the ATGSU, the largest unit of Waiouru Military Camp is the only one implementing these drastic measures.
