DoC puts issues & options
The Department of Conservation has reached another milestone in its production of a Conservation Management Strategy with the release this week of the Issues and Options Paper. The public 's replies to this important document will help determine how DoC manages its conservation estate over the next 10 years. Advocacy Manager Dave Wakelin said that the paper was a culmination of a series of public meetings and staff input into the key conservation and management issues facing this region of the country. Public comment on any or all the issues and options covered by the paper are welcomed. Mr Wakelin said that there are several ways anyone may reply. The Issues and Options paper can be used as a workbook to be returned to any DoC office complete with comments and ideas, or they may wish to write letters, notes, phone DoC staff or call in at DoC's Turangi office. Some groups or individuals may wish DoC officers to visit them and discuss the issues. Mr Wakelin said that they were happy to receive public input in any form. The closing date for submissions has been extended to the end of October to give everyone time to think .about and discuss the issues before reply ing. Following analysis of all submissions DoC intends to write a draft conservation management strategy which will also be
available for public comment before the final plan is completed. Copies of the Issues and Options paper are available from the Taupo Native Plant Nursery, Turangi Conservancy Office, Whakapapa Visitor Centre and Ohakune Field Centre.
