No chains in Ohakune please

Cars must not be driven inside the Ohakune town boundaries with chains fitted, the Waimarino Community Board said last week. There is a local bylaw forbidding driving cars with chains on the town's roads and traffic officers and police have the power to enforce the bylaw. The board was discussing the recent skiertraffic jam which completely clogged the streets of the Ohakune Junction area. Many cars were seen being driven around the town that weekend with chains fitted. The board recommended that more signs be put up around town advising people of the bylaw, and that ski hire shops be reminded to tell their hire customers about the law.
