Co-opt Concern
• In response to 'Wondering' , - in the New Zealand Schools
Association Trustees (Inc) monthly news journal, July edition Helpdesk it states;-
Criteria for selecting coopted and appointed trustees. It is desirable, so far as is reasonably practicable that every board should reflect:- The ethnic and socio-economic
diversity of the student body of the school or institution; and the fact that approximately half the population of New Zealand is male and half is female and; the character of the school or
schools or institution it administers and; the character of the community (whether geographical or otherwise) served by the school or schools or institution it administers, and; that every board should have available from within its membership expertise and experience in management. It is important to apply these criteria when considering people for co-option or appointment. For the above reasons the people who instigated this meeting feel that their childrens' cultural needs would be more equally represented by co-opting more Maori members to the BoT. Lets get it right; the people concerned have at least taken the initiative and made a positive move to help in the education of their children.
Any interest is better than none at all. Surely this can only be an advantage, after all this is what Tomorrows Schools are all about 'Wondering'- I hope this clarifies your concern.
