Power cut-offs cut

Just 11 customers had to be disconnected for non-payment of their King Country Energy power accounts in July, well down on the number at the same time last year and the lowest figure in three years of record keeping. General manager Peter Till told the August board meeting that the board now has "a lot of pre-pay meters out there - perhaps we're getting on top of it." Ten of the disconnections were in Taumarunui and one in Turangi. At the peak, the board was forced to disconnect more than 110 customers in one month, in April 1991.
