"United Nations music Saturday"

Kantuta who originally formed in 1983, describe themselves as a 'mini united nations'. The group comprises two New Zealanders, three Chileans, one Brazilian, one Colombian and a Scotsman. They draw their musical influences from their varied cultural backgrounds and perform a unique style of Euro/Latin rhythms; singing in Spanish, English, Portuguese, French and the indigenous 'Inca' language called 'Quechua'. The end of 1989 brought new perspectives in the development of the music towards that of a modern contemporary Latino dance style. This created more accessibility and opened up a wider audience for Kantuta within New Zealand. Currently their singer 'Linda Sinorita' is climb- ' ing the Top 20. They play the Ohakune Tequila Carnival Hot Lava this Saturday 29 August.
