Rates Options
Ruapehu ratepayers will be offered four payment options for their rates this year. A discount payment option is available, where a ratepayer can opt to pay all their year's rates on or before 18 September and receive a 16 per cent discount. General manager Cliff Houston said taking into account tax implications on the discount obtained
and the current low levels of bank deposit rates, the option would more than double the return on investing the money at a bank. For the first time people can choose a new option called the easy plan payment service, whereby a person' s bank makes automatic payment of the rates instalments on the last day before penalty date. "This will mean your payment will never be late and you will have the benefit of your money right up until the last moment," said Mr Houston.
