As well as the obvious health advantages of the improved Ohakune water, a number of unforeseen advantages have come to light. Ohakune's water man Ben Goddard told the Waimarino Community Board last week about some of them. "Carrot washers have lost an on-going job of having to stop their machines to prick the water jets. Before, they would regularly clog up with the gunk that was in the supply." He said the council will save about $9000 a year through not having to put man-hours into flushing the reticulation system of sediment. Tap washers would last longer without the abrasive action of the material in the water. He forgot to mention the easing of headaches for photographers (such as the Bulletin's) who will no longer face silt stains through their negatives when the Turn to page 12

From page 1 1 darkroom filter fails. Another advantage that may or may not come to pass, is access to the water catchment area. Regional Conservator Paul Green told the Bulletin that because the water is now filtered and treated, he hoped that it would be possible to allow access to the area.
