More snow than last year

It's proving to be another bumper snow year at Whakapapa Ski Area with big snowfalls and high winds building an early season base far in excess of 1991, and that was one of the best seasons on record. Already there is a snow base of 220cm - 43cm ahead of the same period last year. The skifield opened on 30 May and persistent snow storms through June and July have kept operations staff busy digging and clearing ski lift tracks. "We're thrilled with the snow conditions at present," said Scott Lee, marketing manager for Whakapapa. "The skifield is looking better with greater snow coverage than any time last year." "There's a groomed trail right down the Rockgarden area and some of the more popular trails on the upper ski field have more snow than any of us can remember." "Right now though, i we'd like to see some fine weather!"
