College soccer

After a run of 8 games in Wanganui, Ruapehu played their first homegame on Saturday when they met Wanganui High. School. Keen to win at home and also keen to put their last match loss behind them, they started resolutely. Clearly the game was to be a close contest. High School scored the only first-half goal with a shot that hit the right upright and deflected across the left upright before keeper Fetzer was able to get a hand to it. The ball was judged to have crossed the line however. Ruapehu continued to

fight on almost scoring immediately after the second-half start. Caleb Tumataroa did manage an equaliser, shortly after. Several further good opportunities came Ruapehu's way but the forwards were unable to capitalise and find the net. Final score 1-1. Taking the one point only means Ruapehu will assure themselves of a top-of-the-table finish with a win this Saturday against Collegiate Juniors. The game is scheduled for Ruapehu College at 12.30pm. Mid-week Thursday the College travel to Taihape for the regular interschool fixture.
