SCALES
• In the early hours oflast Sunday, about 5.30am, two local women going to work were assaulted by a man near Trotter Way/Round-a-bout area in the Military Camp. The man made obscene and suggestive remarks to the women and pushed them both to the ground. The frightened women made their way to their work followed by the man who then tried to get into their work-place. Neither woman was hurt. Ladies, please be aware of this incident if you are walking to work or strolling around in the early hours or late evenings. The offender is described as a Maori, aged about middle-20's. Thick moustache with the beginnings of a straggly beard. Long thick curly-, shoulder-length hair. He was wearing gumboots and a grey swandri with a hood. About 5' 10", and medium build. We need some more information about this man. If the same thing has happened to you, or you know who he is, or who he might be, please ring us. We want to catch him. • Two young local juveniles have been spo-
ken to about the petty crime that's been gong on in the community recently, as well as the numerous vehicles that have been broken into and property removed. Hundreds of dollars worth of property has been recovered and most of it has been retumed to the owners. However, we are still holding a large amount of unclaimed property at the station. If you think your vehicle may have had some property removed from it, give us a ring at the station. Please lock your vehicles. • We are still holding two mountain bikes. They must belong to someone locally. If they are not claimed shortly, they will go to auction. • Last week, a 19-year-old woman was arrested for trying to pass a stolen credit card at one of the service-stations. The stolen card was only detected after one of the staff had the presence of mind to check the validity of it. The woman is now facing numerous fraud of fences and will appear in the Taihape Court this month. • Also arrested last week was a 30-year-old man for refusing to have a blood specimen taken as required by an enTurn to page 13

He will be explaining to the judge later this month as well. • The publicans of the Oasis Hotel and ourselves have spoken to a number of people recently about under-age drinking and one person is already facing a charge of being a minor in a bar. If you are under 20, you may not drink in the public-bar of the Hotel (restricted area), unless you are accompanied by a guardian or spouse and are between 18 and 20. If you are under 18 and have a guardian or spouse with you, you are still not allowed to drink there. You are not even allowed to be in the restricted area. The lounge bar of the Hotel is known as a supervised area. If you are of any age under 20, you may be in this area provided you are accompanied by a parent, spouse or guardian. The publicans are pretty hot on under-age drinking and if caught you will be asked to leave and may be charged with being a minor in a bar. You can face a fine up to $500.
