Waiouru Camp was visited on Friday 10 July by Mary Collins, the Canadian Associate Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Status of Women. Mrs Collins was met at Waiouru Airfield by Commander ATG, Colonel CP Sinclair and then was greeted with a Maori challenge at the camp entrance. While in Waiouru the Minister visited the Officer Cadet School of New Zealand where she was briefed by the Commandant, LieutenantColonel Warren Whiting, regarding the integration of women into the New Zealand Army. At OCS, where females average 10 percent of cadets, the pass rate of 69 percent is exactly the same for female cadets as it is for males, with the exception of the Regular Fitness Level Test (RFL), where requirements for women acknowledge biological differences, the training is identical. In Canada female officers may graduate to all
corps, whereas in this country the only 'tooth arm' corps employing females is the Royal New Zealand Corps of Signals. The female cadets currently at OCS believed that because the New Zealand Army is smaller than Canada's, the job requirements in each corps are broader, therefore the demands on their skills are greater. Mrs Collins also visited the Queen Elizabeth II Army Memorial Museum, before departing for Auckland. Ohakune darts club Results from Wednesday 22 July: Singles evening played, highest start; Steve Wallace with 120, highest score; Steve Wallace with 140, highest finish; Kaylene Crossan with 164.
