Power saving - take it easy you seniors

by

Robert

Milne

Power saving is going quite well it seems - don't give up now. But who is doing the saving? Is it the eldcrly? A community newspaper in Southland reports that some of the biggest savers are old people. Perhaps they are the most experienced at being frugal with power. They have survived the depression of the thirties and they have also lived a large part of their lives without the modern conveniences that younger folk take for granted. But many old people are the least able to cope with the cold and are putting themselves at risk. If younger and, supposedly hardier, folk can save a little more than their share, perhaps we can convince the old folk to ease off a little and not risk injury or ill-health through being too worried to tum on a light or a heater.
