New radio

Waimarino radio choice goes from no local stations to two this week. Te Reo Irirangi Ki Ruapehu, the Ohakune - based Maori radio station starts broadcasting on Wednesday (see separate story) and Ski FM starts on Saturday. Ski FM, led by Dave Campbell, will operate through the winter as it has done through about nine previous ski seasons. But this year when it shuts down, the local station "Mountain FM" will take over. and Ski/ Mountain FM will transmit from Waipuna Ridge. The establishment of the transmitters has been a joint effort, with the help of New Zealand On Air. Ski/Mountain FM will broadcast on 95.8 FM, in stereo, from their studio at the old Turoa Information Office in Clyde Street.
