"Nothing much happens before the shortest day" say some local skiers. But on the Shortest Day 1992 a lot was happening on Ruapehu. Phil Couch and "Inky" Inkster make the most off the deep stuff below the Weather Station rocks. Sunday 21 June saw about 1000 people take to the Turoa slopes, while Whakapapa's Happy Valley was busy both Saturday and Sunday. Whakapapa hopes to have upper slopes open by the weekend, and Turoa is working to have the T Bars running by today.
