TV turnoff for Library week

'Turn off...." seems to be the plea of the month what with electricity being rationed throughout the country, so it seems quite appropriate that the theme for Library Week is "The Great New Zealand Television Turnoff!" That's the message from our local librarians. "This could be the time to look at other alternatives, something that you'd always wanted to give a go:- decoupage (what's that??) papier maehe (make your own jewellery and bowls), wine/beer making, dough modelling, ceramics, embroidery, cookery (exotic foreign dishes) whatever your choice the local libraries have a good selection of the above crafts and much more," said librarian Wendy Hubbard. "Check out the local clubs and evening classes, there is such a variety of subjects - Ruapehu International Training i n Communication, gardening club, bridge and adult gymnastics to name just a few," she said. "Call into the library for a list of contacts - challenge yourself to do something different!" "Encourage children to be creative - remember jigsaws, model making, knitting, drawing, card games, board games - doing things as a family?" The local libraries plan to have attractions throughout Library Week - check them out and find there is another world from watching TV.
