Arts meet
A demonstration of Taniko weaving by j Jackie Rapana was the highlight of the Art and Craft Society's meeting on 24 May at the new premises at Ohakune Junction - formerly the Railway Foreman's Office and now the MTRO headquarters.. Dexterously using colourful modern threads woven amongst traditional black-dyed flax, Jackie creates attractive and unique matching ear ring and brooch sets which, along with her Taniko belts, are finding a ready market in both islands of New Zealand. The society looks forward to having a selection of her work on display at their "Housewarming" exhibition and sale on a date to be announced. Other topics of discussion at the well-attended gathering were designs for a society banner and recent failure of the water supply to the building. The society is trying to find someone who may know where the water pipe ruiis. The next meeting is scheduled for 30 June.
