More room at Carnival
Plans for Ohakune's Carrot Carnival on Saturday 11 July are already well advanced but there's still room for more ideas and suggestions to help make this event one of the highlights of the year's social calendar. The newly-formed Ohakune Community Development Team, which is co-ordinating the activities for this first-ever Carrot Carnival, invite all Waimarino businesses, ski and tour operators, market gardeners, service clubs and organisations of all kinds as well as individuals to come forward and submit ideas that will help ensure its success in creating a timely carnival atmosphere. It is hoped that the qntire Ohakune town centre
will become one huge carnival site filled with music, entertainment, displays and demonstrations, parades, stalls and side-shows. Among the proposals already under consideration are: horizontal bungy contests; tug of
war teams; mountain bike and roller-blade races; anti-skid driving demonstrations; rescue and accident recovery displays; stretcher races; gum-boot throwing; painting and photographic competitions as well as several events
associated with the ubiquitous carrot. But these are only a start... please contact Anjii Zimmerman, convenor of the Ohakune Community Development Team, at 385-4397 if you have any suggestions.
