Sports trust firmly established
The Waimarino Community Sports Education and Development Trust is now firmly established in the district. It grew out of the original aim to fund Phil Garland's expenses to Barcelona. Because of the continuing uncertainty of selection, Mr Garland made the decision to withdraw. He had claimed only 40% of actual expenses to date and did not wish to receive any further donations. The main fundraiser for the trust is a $2 per week raffle, with a weekly draw. When fully sold it will realise $50,000 annually, for immediate distribution by approved applications to sports persons and/or sports bodies in the community. $25,000 is to be set
aside and invested to build a fund within the trust of $1,000,000. Once this target is achieved money generated from this fund will also be available for sports education and development in the Waimarino. Donations and other sources of income will also be sought! to add to this fund in the future. The tickets are available from Secretary Cath McLean and trust members. To Save time and inconvenience, tickets can be paid for in cash in advance or by automatic payment from a bank account. Purchasers are encouraged to buy a year's supply for $100, thus gaining two weeks' tickets free. All details of the operation and aims of the
raffle are printed on the ticket. There is a weekly prize-list published in the Bulletin , with $400 for the correct number;
$25 for one each side; $10 for two each side: $25 for winning number reversed. The trustees are Garrick Workman, Cathy McLean, Clive Fremlin,
Geoff Fox, Barbara Dobson, Keitha Journeaux, Wally Parkes, Glyn Hubbard, Neville Johnson, Rob Goldsbury and Warren Turner.
