College soccer

Ruapehu played Wanganui High School at Wembley park in Wanganui on Saturday 9 May. Conditions were extremely cold and windy. Playing against a much stronger side than their previous two matches, a degree of panic appeared at times. Players were closed down much quicker and often lost possession unnecessariiy ■ High school scored after only nine minutes when keeper Fetzer just failed to deflect a long shot over the bar. Some penetrating runs by N. Sharma and Aeneas O'Sullivan started to bring Ruapehu back into contention. O'Sullivan levelled the score halfway through the half. Just on half time Nathan Swain kicked a

Jong wind-assisted lofted ball through to the keeper who was unable to control it and O'Sullivan was on the spot to finish off making the half time score 2 -1 to Ruapehu. Playing into the wind in the second half, Ruapehu made a determined effort to keep the ball low. Both sides had scoring opportunities in the second half but the final score remained 2 -1 to Ruapehu.
