Cross country
Winning runners from primary schools in the Ruapehu area met to compete in the interschool cross country race at Orautoha School on ,1 May. Each school had its own cross country race to determine the fastest three children in each age group to race at Orautoha School, against other local schools. The 6-9 year old children ran 1,000m, 10-11 ran 1,500m and the 12 year old children ran 2,000m. The course was 'cross country'. Schools - Waiouru, National Park, Ngamatea, Ohakune, Raetihi, Orautoha and Rangataua Cross Country held at Orautoha School on Friday 1 May. Results are as follows: 6 and 7 year old boys; 1st Kyle Martin - Raetihi, 2nd Ricki Taura - Raetihi, 3rd Shaun Smith - Waiouru, 4th Frazer Hammond - Raetihi, 5th Zarick Arahanga - Raetihi, 6th Jamie Fielding - Ohakune. 6 and 7 year old girls; 1 st Kirsty Litt - Ohakune, 2nd Daselle Bishop - Raetihi, 3rd Kiri Schofield - Waiouru, 4th Louise Taotahi - Waiouru, 5th Vicki Hiscox - Raetihi, 6th Diana Cranston - Raetihi. Junior Boys (8 - 9yrs); 1st Dwayne Marsh - Ohakune, 2nd George Williams - Orautoha, 3rd Kevin McDonald - Ohakune, 4th Andrew Evans - Rangataua,
5th Sean Dobbs - Raetihi, 6th Tim Odom - Waiouru. Jurrior girls; 1st Casey Scarrow - Raetihi, 2nd Maraina Taotahi - Waiouru, 3rd Erin Martin - Raetihi, 4th Cherisse Stephens Ohakune, 5th Emma Forster - Raetihi, 6th Karen Richards - Ohakune.
