Raetihi retirement home planned

BY

RIC

The future is looking bright for the Anglican Parish of Ruapehu after their annual general meeting last week. The goals of the Rev Bernard Cox are to visit each parishioner and spend at least 20-30 minutes, twice a year. He also plans to get a programme for younger folk going, on alternate weeks for standard three to form two children. For high school students a fun games evening on Friday

nights followed on Sundays by squash, tea and a special service. Parish gpals are: • to call a public meeting within the next three months to appoint a group to undertake a feasibility study for a Christian trust to establish a retirement home on the Anglican Church section in Raetihi • that well advertised Saturday evening services, during the ski season suitable for other denominations be held

at St John's in Ohakune. • during 1992 the congregation be encouraged to proceed with fundraising and work to re-roof and paint the church in Ohakune • to relocate St James Church Hall from Rangataua to Ohakune The renovations of the vicarage in Raetihi are completed. The concept to lower the ceilings, remove fireplaces, move doors and windows and open walls have created practicality

and comfort. The double garage and covered porchway give a dry entrance to the house. The diocession require certain standards for a vicarage and as far as practicable, all these have been met, or can be met and for that, they gratefully acknowledge the Irwin bequest. The renovations were done without the assistance of a diocesan loan and about one sixth of the trust is still intact. Landscaping around the vicarage and St Mary's Church is scheduled to be completed in February 1993. A full

load of bark and a load of scoria have been delivered to the grounds. Election of wardens and vestery: Vicars w arden; Gerald Olds, People's warden; Dorothy McNie, Alfred Alabaster, Vestry; Mary Allen, Nigel Buck, Shelagh Buck, Carol Harford, Gilbert Olds, Robin Olds, Linda Henare, Elizabeth Penny, Alison Thomas. A minute's silence was observed for the late Betty Kurukaanga in remembrance of her tireless efforts for the parish.
