Breadman art at Ohakune School
Imagination, artistry and culinary skills shone last Wednesday when Ohakune Primary School' s pupils had fun with healthy food. Some children chose to make sandwiches using a great variety of fillings, which were then eaten with obvious enjoyment. Some children tried fillings that
would usually be ignored. Dental nurse Kate Lourie said even the mothers helping were impressed. Older children used their artistic abilities to create breadmen, many of which showed great imagination. "The standard was so high we would have liked to photograph every masterpiece," said Mrs Lourie. The idea behind the activity was to show children that bread can be used with many different toppings and fillings to satisfy even the most fussy of tastes. The Molenberg bread used was donated by
Cutelli's Bakery of Wanganui, to encourage the use of bread, which has a high nutritional value, in the daily diet. The school offered thanks to those parents who donated food and to the patient mothers who helped. Prizes awarded were donated by the Waimarino Health Watch Committee in support of the health awareness activity: Room 6: B Munn, C Nagy, K Bates, R Marriott, A Ball, S Andrews. Rm 9: L Karauria, K Wallis, M Johnson. Rm 13 A Bates, M Deadman, C Bishop, C Stephens. Rm2 M Goldfinch, D Scarf, H Pike, J Evans. Rm 5 N Honana, M Hemara, Rm 4 R Goddard, R Cleland, C Tumer, K Godfrey.
