Rates uncollectable?
• How Mr Stuart Hunter can compare Crown Land equally with that in multiple ownership is quite beyond logic. Council's decision clearly creates a dreadful precedent. Who for example owns all the newly reforested land around our region, who pays the rates on it? A forestry company perhaps, with very multiple ownership. I presume if they do not make a profit they now no longer pay rates. What of the local farm companies making no profit, do they stop paying rates? Mr Hunter surprise! surprise! vast areas in the South Island, Crown Lands, are leased, make profit, pay rates. Further surprise Mr Hunter in our own region Crown Land is leased farmed and pays rates. I hope Mr Hunter does not bring his strange logic to his new office, we had all better watch that he does not count only the minority votes. Mr Hunter your advice to Council ensures you a place on Jim's PR Team.
